Versify—2002 National Poetry Slam team champion Blair will make an appearance at the Blue Dragon Coffeehouse (1517 Girard NE) during the Collage of Verse Poetry Slam on Friday, Nov. 25. He of the Single Name is the poetry editor of The Furnace Magazine and is also a poetry instructor in the Detroit public school system. Blair has performed his spectacular live verse all over the world, and we're very lucky doggies to have him here in Albuquerque for an evening. A host of local slammers will be poeticizing into the Blue Dragon mic as well. Show starts at 7 p.m. 268-5159.

Unit(e)—From fighting cyborg roosters to abstract metal geometries, a new exhibit at Downtown's Windchime Champagne Gallery (518 Central SW) features some truly exotic sculptural specimens for your enjoyment and enlightenment, all created by advanced sculpture students at UNM. Most of the work is in the atmospheric second story loft space. A closing reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. The show runs through Dec. 5. 244-4060.

Culture Shock

Fearsome Threesome—For a region as dropdead gorgeous as New Mexico, it's simply amazing how freakin' ugly the Land of Enchantment can sometimes be. Magazines and brochures celebrate the undeniably picturesque elements of our state but skip over the neglected trailer parks, trash heaps and general deterioration that characterize so much of New Mexico. A new exhibit at the Governor's Gallery features work by three artists who embrace the decidedly unpretty aspects of our state. Steve Fitch's color photographs, Chad Person's mixed-media work and Sherlock Terry's stereographic images pay creative homage to often overlooked elements in our built environment. The Governor's Gallery is located on the fourth floor of the state capitol. The show will be up through Jan. 6. (505) 476-2289.
