Hallelujah! Hallelujah!—Under the direction of Guillermo Figueroa, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Chorus whips up a complete rendition of Handel's holiday classic, The Messiah, for two performances at UNM's Popejoy Hall on Friday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m., and one at the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. Experience the story of Jesus in all its operatic splendor. All Year Round—While in Seattle, Lauri Dickinson and Cindy Blackstone visited an exhibit made up of work from two artists who had made one piece of art per week for the course of a year. The show inspired the duo to create The Semanas Project, in which they sent out an invitation to women around the country and abroad to create a single small autobiographical artwork per week during 2004. The result is an exhibit currently on display at the Harwood Art Center (1114 Seventh Street NW) featuring the work of 14 women artists. In some cases, all 52 pieces from a single artist are on display. In others, only a selection from the year's worth of work is included. A reception for The Semanas Project: 52 Weeks in 2004 will occur on Friday, Dec. 16, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The exhibit runs through Dec. 21. For more information, call 242-6367.

Swingin' Poetry—The Mark Weber Poetry Band makes an appearance at the Outpost Performance Space (210 Yale SE) this Thursday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Weber will read from his latest book of poems while accompanied by a back-up band of jazz improvisers including Richard Tabnik, Bill Payne, Michael Vlatkovich and William Roper. $15 general, $10 Outpost members.
