Kids love Mr. Stinky Feet. I know this because last week I took my 7-year-old niece to see him. Not only was she over the moon about it, but so were the other hundred kids who were present. Mr. Stinky Feet plays guitar and sings about spitting out gum and boppin’ dinosaurs, sometimes with prerecorded backing music, and all his numbers are participation-friendly. At one point he invited a gaggle of children to join him onstage and arrhythmically beat tambourines for five minutes. Later, citing “leading by example” as a good move, he coerced a dozen adults up. Guess who seriously got down to an Aretha Franklin-style song about drinking water? Mr. Stinky Feet played at the Erna Fergusson library, and admission was free. This was one event in a summer schedule chock-full of free programming at Albuquerque public libraries. Cook mixes organic materials like stones and bones with metal and other recycled bits.
