Put down those bath beads—no one wants those for Christmas. Instead, pick up some one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork for the loved ones left on your list. Neighboring galleries Matrix Fine Art and New Grounds Print Workshop (3812 Central SE, Suites 100 A and B) invite you to their holiday show and sale. The reception on Friday, Dec. 11, goes from 5 to 8 p.m. Artwork is priced from $25 and up. For more information on these galleries and this event, go to newgroundsgallery.com or matrixfineart.com.

Culture Shock: The Nmso Is Back! The Nmso Is Back!

Labor negotiations between the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and its players have concluded, and while this has resulted in a reduced salary for the performers, it also means that the 76-year-old NMSO can continue its mission of providing our state with top-notch music and programming. The first gig since the band got back together is the annual A Very Merry Pops , conducted by Matt Catingub, on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Popejoy Hall. The matinee show begins at 2 p.m., and the evening performance starts at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $60 and can be had at the NMSO Box Office (4407 Menaul NE), at nmso.org, or by calling 881-8999. As they’ll be joined by the Manzano Day School Chorus, special student prices are available, with 20 percent off tickets. Or, try the student rush beginning 90 minutes before the show, when a student ID gets you in for $8. Glad you’re back, NMSO.
