Octomania!

Note to the world’s marketing geniuses: Place the prefix “Octo” in front of any word and you automatically have something people won’t stop saying. Try it. Octomom, Octoplex, OctoStash. See, it’s fun. You can even make up something like “Octodog” and I bet it’ll catch on. I’m not even sure what that is, but I’ve got to have one.

That infectious naming device is just one reason you should be excited about the Spring OctoFair, a craft fest being staged by local purveyors of arty goods The Octopus and the Fox. Taking place Saturday in the shared parking lot of Farina Pizzeria and the Artichoke Café, OctoFair boasts roughly 20 vendors exhibiting handmade jewelry, screen-printed T-shirts, quirky toys and lots more.

There’s also live music, a bake sale and a raffle with gift certificates from businesses near the East Downtown store. OctoTopping it all off, proceeds from portions of the show—including part of artists’ booth fees, the bake sale and all raffle tickets—will benefit New Day Youth and Family Services, a nonprofit that gives guidance to at-risk youth.

It’s the best opportunity you’ll have for last-minute OctoMother’s Day shopping. Be sure to bring your seven siblings.
