I doubt many artists would consider it a blight on their C.V. or credibility to have 43,000 full-page spreads for the Alibi ‘s most popular issue of the year. That, a little stipend cash and some gift prizes are exactly what we’re offering you with our inaugural Alibi Best of Art contest. The idea is pretty simple: Our annual Best of Burque issue hits stands April 5, and in it, we’d like to have our six sections graced by artwork that’s representative of the content therein. Example: One of the sections is "Life in Burque." It includes about 50 categories, ranging from favorite politicians to best local traditions to best show/movie filmed in town. So maybe you’d depict members of the City Council driving down Isleta in a meth Winnebago with Bryan Cranston during the Muertos y Marigolds parade. … Just an idea. Now that you’ve got your creative juices flowing, here are the guidelines: 1) Categories: • Life in Burque • Arts and Lit• Local Flavor• The High Life• Goods• Services (To see exactly what these categories represent, refer to our Best of Burque sample ballot on page 4 of this week’s issue, or click here.) 2) Instructions: Submit a rough sketch and description of your idea along with an example of a previous work (or weblink) by Wednesday, March 14, at 4 p.m. Mail to or drop off at 413 Central NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102, Attn: Sam Adams, or email bestofart@alibi.com.We’ll notify our six winners, who’ll be given $25 for materials and have a deadline of March 23 to complete their pieces. Dimensions must be 10 inches wide by 11.6 inches tall, and works must be 2D. (Sorry, pop-up book style has too much overhead in this challenging economy.) You must also include the category headlines in your work. As for the medium, that’s up to you, as long as it’s easily reproducible. And feel free to submit sketches for multiple categories. So get to work on your 10 inches of fame. Immortality awaits.
