That Vincent van Gogh was one wacky dude, what with all the hacking his own ear off and painting crazy shit on coffee cups and all. Er, wait, the ear thing is true; I think the coffee cup painting was actually done on canvas, and my mom bought me a replication at a museum or a yard sale or something. Anyway, in conjunction with Turner to Cézanne , The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History and FUSION Theatre have teamed up to present Vincent (which stars one guy, Ross Kelly) for a very limited run. On Thursday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. you can check out the one-man play written by … wait for it … Leonard Nimoy! Yup, somehow Mr. Spock got his hands on correspondence between the brothers van Gogh—Theo and Vincent—and wrote a play. Tickets to the performance are included with admission to the exhibition (check cabq.gov/museum for details), which closes on Aug. 8. So if you haven’t seen it yet, you’re now ordered: Get thee to the museum. Seating is first come, first served, so head over the The Albuquerque Museum at 2000 Mountain NW immediately to get a seat.

Benjamin Radford, you had me at chupacabra. Yes, Radford writes for the Alibi, and while you might think that’s why he’s getting props, you’re totally wrong. At his upcoming talk he discusses one of my favorite topics, the creepy things that go bump in the night. These scary things include Ogopogo, a Canadian lake monster. Side note: I just found out about this critter a few weeks ago and have chided my Okanagan Lake-area homie for not including the whole “bloodthirsty” part when he told me the tale. Other awesomes include the ghost at the Santa Fe courthouse and the White Witch of Rose Hall from Jamaica. Besides scaring the bejesus out of his audience, Radford will sign copies of his new book Scientific Paranormal Investigation at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Bookworks (4022 Rio Grande NW). Even though the workshop is called “Power Writing: Sexual Poems and Paragraphs,” Nancy Ava Miller doesn’t expect everyone to write like the Marquis de Sade. The point, really, is to get in touch with your inner writer and to bang out a couple of really good graphs. Miller authored Pervert: Notes from the Sexual Underground and the workshop does take place at Self Serve (3904B Central SE), so stories will likely be a little more risqué than if they were written in a church basement.
