Found Objects Plot Twist

Deathtrap—the longest running thriller ever on Broadway—makes its way westerly to land at Aux Dog Theatre in Nob Hill (310 Monte Vista Blvd. NE) for an opening on Friday, May 18. The play, directed here by Colin A. Borden, is well known for an unusual plot structure—the main storyline being a play within the play. The story centers on a struggling playwright who discovers the work of a student which he believes to have enormous potential. The two writers agree to collaborate on the play—which begins to unfold in unexpected ways. Gasp-inducing just as much as it is funny, Deathtrap is one to catch while it shows at Aux Dog. The play runs until June 10, tickets start at $15 and can be found at auxdogtheatre.org.

Found Objects Talk The Talk

Renowned photographer, writer, lecturer and community organizer Maria Varela visits the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth Street SW) on Sunday, May 20 for the second in a series of lectures on People Powered: New Mexicans and Social Movements, hosted by both the NHCC and Humans of New Mexico Collective. These conversations—free and open to the public—are held in conjunction with an exhibition at the NHCC of the same name. Addressing topics of economic development in the Southwest, preservation of land and how her photography and other creative work speaks to such, this is vital dialogue to join into. Varela, who was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2005, speaks at the History & Literary Arts Library beginning at 11am.

Wednesday, May 23’s evening talk (starting at 6:30pm) brings representatives from both fields together to discuss the many ways in which these disciplines inform and expand the other. Participants include UNM’s Dr. Andrea Polli and Jeannette Hart-Mann, John Feins of Meow Wolf, Tom Greenbaum from Intel and Dr. William Hartmann of the Planetary Science Institute. Tickets start at $5, and include a coupon to see the related exhibitions. Visit nmnaturalhistory.org for more information.
