August starts out right with local poet Bianca Sanchez telling it like it is at Burque Revolt Poetry Slam featuring Bianca Sanchez on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Canvas Artistry (3120 Central Ave. SE). As always, leave your hate speech and scented products at home. Nobody at this show wants a whiff of either one of those things. For more information on this free, all-ages event, see burquerevoltpoetryslam.wordpress.com.

Found Objects The Animal Inside Us

Suzanne Sbarge brings to life the dreamy consciousness of our animal selves for the exhibit Suzanne Sbarge: Refresh with an opening reception on Friday, Aug. 2 from 5pm to 8pm at Mariposa Gallery (3500 Central Ave. SE). For more information on this free, all-ages event, see mariposa-gallery.com.

Found Objects Residue List

Carpet scraps will not be on display at the one-night-only OT Circus (709 Central Ave. NW) group show Remnants on Friday, Aug. 2 from 5pm to 9pm. Instead, mixed media artists Arlaina Ash, Helen Juliet Atkins and Connor Schneider have reworked old pieces to create something new from the remnants of the old. That makes more sense. For more information on this free, all-ages event, see otcircus.com.

Found Objects True That

Street photography is the order of the day on Friday, August 2 from 5pm to 8pm at The Boiler Monkey (600 Central Ave. SW). Photographer Jeff “The Truth” Hertz presents ACTIVATE! – a show of photographs of last year’s downtown ABQ Artwalk at a fundraiser for a future downtown ABQ Artwalk. This opening reception includes music by Jacob Reinhardt, Cynical Bird and Ruben Cortinas. All proceeds from print sales go to support the continued efforts of ABQ Artwalk.
