The final forum of the regional exhibition Species in Peril Along the Rio Grande is Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6pm at 516 ARTS (516 Central Ave. SW). Author and historian Bathsheba Demuth, along with biologist Joe Cook and conservationist Cristina Mormorunni, consider the larger context beyond the Rio Grande Valley of the climate change crisis in a public conversation moderated by exhibition co-curator Subhankar Banerjee, Chair of the UNM Art and Ecology Program. Found Objects Christmas Break
The remarkable story of the impromptu Christmas truce during WWI that brought a brief suspension in the trench warfare meatgrinder is the basis for Mother Road Theatre Company’s (6320 Domingo Rd. NE, Ste. B) production of All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914. A blend of a capella carols and excepts from soldiers’ letters, All is Calm is a story of peace in a time of war. Baila! Baila!’s annual holiday show Christmas in New Mexico 2019 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (1701 Fourth Street SW) is a full-blown song and dance production with a large, multi-generational cast filled with the music and traditions of the Southwest. Harwood Art Center’s 13th annual 12×12 fundraising exhibition opens Saturday, Dec. 7 with a reception from 6pm to 8pm in both galleries at the Harwood’s 1114 Seventh Street NW location. Artists from across New Mexico have contributed over 250 works to this exhibition and sale to support Harwood’s year-round programs. To further that end, they have a suggested donation of $5 to $20. Do you, or someone you know, love dinosaurs, astronomy and natural history, but loathe flashing lights, big crowds and yelling children? Then consider the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science’s (1801 Mountain Rd. NW) Relaxed Nights at the Museum on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 5:30pm to 8pm. The museum keeps the numbers of people and the volume low so that those with heightened sensitivity can relax and enjoy all the museum has to offer without getting overwhelmed.
