Jan Jackson owned art businesses in Ohio, Arizona and Illinois before she came to Albuquerque. Painting in studio space at the Factory on 5th Artspace ingratiated the area with Jackson, and she began looking for a place to open her own gallery. Jackson wants the gallery to be "non-exploitive in an exploitive art world." Jackson recalls a man who came to Dreamscapes and wasn’t hopeful she’d look at his portfolio. She says other galleries had denied him because he was recently paroled. But Jackson says that the painting skills he learned in prison had created a phenomenal portfolio, and she still represents him. In addition to Jackson’s own needlework-like styled paintings, Dreamscapes hosts the work of 11 other artists. Their pieces include works in porcelain, murals, glass, wood, painting and functional bamboo sculptures that also serve as accent lighting. Dreamscapes also houses rental studio space for four artists. In addition to its regular hours, Dreamscapes takes part in the ARTScrawl.
