It's difficult to describe the surreal, Dali-esque impact of Jorge Leyva's work. Depictions of butterflies, dragonflies, nests and cages float inside rectangular spaces that feel simultaneously traditional and highly contemporary. Leyva's gridded oil on paper art also makes use of a peculiar Asian-looking calligraphic text of the artist's own invention. A solo exhibit of Leyva's work opens this weekend at the fabulous Nüart Gallery in Santa Fe. Unbounded Regression opens Friday, July 11, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibt will run through July 28. (505) 988-3888.
