Will Wrastle for Tacos by DJ Babbitt—one of many great Photo Contest entries
Share ::
First, I must extend my thanks and congratulations to all the photographers who submitted works to our fifth annual Photo Contest this year. The high quality and artistic merit of the entries made for some nerve-racking judging, but, somehow, we narrowed it down to the winners found in this week’s feature.

With that said, all you shutterbugs with incredible eyes for composition should submit your work to
Matrix Fine Art’s juried exhibition of photography opening in July. Matrix is accepting works by any photographer living and working in New Mexico in all photographic processes (digital, nontraditional, 3-D, etc.). For details, visit www.matrixfineart.com or call 268-8952. The deadline for entry is April 1, 2008. If the work they receive mirrors what we saw in our contest, the jurors at Matrix Fine Art face some tough choices.

For The Mother Road

Academy Award-winner Alan Arkin will perform readings from his own works this Saturday, March 15, to benefit the Mother Road Theatre Company, Albuquerque’s newest professional performance troupe. Arkin will be joined by Santa Fe’s Jonathan Richards and New York’s Sean Kernan for this rare, one-night event. The reception starts at 7 p.m. in the Bigbee Auditorium in the State Bar Association Building (5121 Masthead NE). Tickets are $50 per person. For reservations and info, call 873-4831. Also, keep an eye out for details on Mother Road’s first full-run production, The Odyssey , opening March 28 at The Filling Station.

Arts, Cash And You

There are two really good reasons to make art: because you love it and because it makes you money. Albuquerque’s a choice place to do both, and a recent study by the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) suggests business could get even better. Join UNM Dean of Fine Arts Christopher Mead and Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell of BBER on Thursday, March 13, for the Arts and Culture Industries Action Plan Kick-off from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the KiMo Theatre (Central and Fifth Street). You’ll learn key details from the BBER report and how Burque artists plan to capitalize on the news.
