A new novel by Toni Morrison always generates a lot of hoopla. Given Morrison's penchant for describing raw, festering emotional torment, her books might not at first seem like ideal Christmas gifts. I'm about halfway through Love, and I can assure you the title is somewhat deceiving. It tells the story of the Cosey Hotel, once the most popular resort for “colored folk” on the East Coast. Love centers on Bill Cosey, the resort's owner, and the men and women whose lives revolve around him. Morrison's fan base is justly enormous and odds are at least one person on your holiday shopping list will grin with glee when they unwrap this book.
