What was your first job?

I was one of those ridiculous kids that couldn’t wait to get a job! I was a night janitor at an office building at 14. I would show up after office hours, put on my headphones and clean away!

How did you get started in this business?

I was drawn to massage school in 2000 and have been in the spa industry ever since graduating. Doing massage was a skill that I could travel with and it took me all over the country!

Why did you choose this business?

I was first introduced to the spa industry through massage and body work and fell in love with the luxury aspects of spa while working for spas in Aspen, Colorado and Austin, Tex.

What is your business philosophy?

I really believe that the success of my business is directly linked to the happiness of my staff. We spend most of our lives at work and it’s so important that we have a happy, healthy community that we feel valued in.

What is your educational background?

My formal education is in fine arts. I grew up with an artist for a father and was inspired by the artistic process and was always encouraged to be creative. That education has been such an asset to me in everything I’ve done professionally, even if it doesn’t seem directly related.

What is your company’s greatest asset?

My
amazing staff! The Remedy would not be what it is without the talented, passionate people that work here!

Why did you choose to do business in Albuquerque?

I grew up here, but moved away for many years. I see Albuquerque as a growing, evolving city and I’m excited about the potential here.

What motivates you to succeed besides the desire to make money?

It’s been amazing to watch this vision come to life! It’s rewarding to see something into realization. From designing the facility, to creating the treatments, bringing The Remedy into being has been a dream. I love bringing wellness and healing into people’s lives and watching that thrive.

How is operating your own business different than you expected?

Everything about it is different than expected! I don’t think there is anything that can prepare someone for what it will be like to have your own business. It’s more work than I’ve ever done in my life, but for that same reason, it’s also really gratifying. It’s really meaningful to be a part of something that you really believe in.

What significant changes have you implemented recently?

We change all the time. I try to think of The Remedy as a living organism whose needs and demands change, just like our own. It’s so important to be able to recognize when something isn’t working and pivot. I think that’s what has driven our success; our ability to say, "okay, let’s try another way."

What successes in the past year are you most proud of accomplishing?

Our growth feels so significant. When I look at what we were doing this time last year, it amazes me. We’ve come a long way!

What do you offer that the competition doesn’t?

We are based on the philosophy that wellness is a way of life, so we encourage people to really spend time here. We have a full spectrum of offerings from yoga, to skincare, to Ayurveda services. We even have a spa menu partnering with local restaurants so you can get a bite to eat while you’re here.

What contributions to the community (charitable or otherwise) are you most proud of?

In addition to donating to other fundraising for local charities and organizations, The Remedy is an annual sponsor of TEDxABQ. I believe that we have an obligation to support and promote organizations like TEDx that are actively striving for the betterment of our communities. It’s so hard to survive as a brick and mortar business these days; I think that the best thing we can do for ourselves and others is build bridges that make a foundation of support in our city.
