How did you get started in this business?The company was established in 1975 on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Ernie started as one of a small staff in 1980 when business was growing rapidly. Dennis and Paul, Ernie’s school buddies and former co-workers, followed soon afterward. Ron joined shortly thereafter. All were store clerks initially and began buying into the business.What is your company’s greatest asset?The company’s greatest assets are our employees and customers. They are imperative to the success of the business without which the company would be nothing. We as owners acknowledge this simple truth first and foremost and everything else tends to fall into place.Why did you choose to do business in Albuquerque?After becoming well established in Santa Fe we felt it to be a natural progression to expand into the nearest and largest market in the state.What motivates you to succeed besides the desire to make money?It’s exciting and exhilarating to know that we’ve witnessed and shared in the lives of so many creative people throughout the years. Many who are well known and others whose stars are only beginning to rise. It’s the people that keep us motivated and the honor of being a part of their creative process.What significant changes have you implemented recently?The face of business is constantly and forever changing. Sometimes it can be very challenging to keep up. In 2000 we decided to step out of our comfort zone and hold our own exposition. Every other year we produce and host the Artists’ Material Expo here in the state. The Expo this year will be held at Buffalo Thunder Resort Sept. 29-Oct. 2.What successes in the past year are you most proud of accomplishing?Finally agreeing to having a mural painted on the side of the Albuquerque store. It’s attracted a lot of attention. Thanks to Larry Bob Phillips, Kimmi Crawford, Nob Hill Main Street and PNM Resources.What is your company’s greatest challenge?Keeping four owners happy.
