We’re a school where young men and women become lifelong learners with the highest character values and academic goals in a natural New Mexico setting with strong family and community involvement. What is your company’s greatest asset? Excellent students, outstanding faculty/staff and supportive, dedicated parents. What are your strongest business traits? Commitment to the whole child by having not only an excellent academic program, but also teaching young women and men how to be contributing members of a community and people of integrity. Why did you choose to do business in Albuquerque? 20 years ago there was a need for another independent school to meet the growing demand. What motivates you to succeed besides the desire to make money? Guiding young women and men on the path toward preparing for college and life beyond and witnessing their growth over a seven year period—from when they come in as impressionable eleven-year-olds to the day they graduate as college-ready, confident, civically-minded people who are devoted to making their world a better place for others. What significant changes have you implemented recently? We’ve introduced many new academic and formed extracurricular programs that benefit our students and formed several new partnerships dedicated to improving the lives of people in Albuquerque, New Mexico, nationally and internationally. What successes in the past year are you most proud of accomplishing?Watching the Class of 2015 be accepted to colleges all over the country and in Canada and receive over four million dollars in merit-based scholarships, having students who were recognized nationally for their commitment to service learning, and seeing Bosque teachers honored with Golden Apple Teaching Awards. What do you offer that the competition doesn’t? A commitment to teaching students the equal importance of scholarship, community and integrity rather than being solely about academics, and helping students learn to have balanced and healthy lives. How do you maintain your competitive edge? By constantly asking ourselves how we can improve as the requirements for college and work change in a fast-paced, globalized, interconnected world, and then implementing changes that will prepare our students for the world they will encounter. What was your best business decision? Creating programs that are not available in other educational settings, so we can offer something truly different. What are your growth goals? To renovate and improve parts of our campus to meet the growing demands of our programs. What is your company’s greatest challenge? Meeting the ever-increasing need for financial aid so qualified students can attend Bosque. What contributions to the community (charitable or otherwise) are you most proud of? Our service learning programs in grades 6-12 that challenge our students to actively engage in their communities and our three community outreach programs—The Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP), Horizons Albuquerque at Bosque School and the Sofia Center for Professional Development—all of which are dedicated to improving the lives of people throughout New Mexico. In what area of your business do you invest the most energy? In constantly improving our programs to prepare our students for the ever-complex and exciting world they will enter. What’s your favorite saying or quotation? “Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.” Marian Wright Edelman“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.Anything else you would like to add?Bosque is proud to offer an educational experience that differentiates it from many other schools and teaches young women and men that engaging in their school work, committing to their communities and acting with integrity makes for an intellectually challenging, personally satisfying and rewarding life.
