The Lockheed Martin DynaTheater at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science gets a new documentary this Friday, Dec. 12. Tiny Giants 3D is the first original giant screen film from BBC Earth Productions—which is a heck of a pedigree if you’ve ever seen any of the “Planet Earth” productions. Narrated by Stephen Fry (“A Bit of Fry & Laurie,” The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Tiny Giants 3D transports audiences into miniature natural worlds. See what life is like for chipmunks and grasshopper mice in the scorching deserts of Arizona. The film will screen twice a day (10am and 2pm) at the NMMNH&S’ five-story-tall DynaTheater screen (1801 Mountain NW). Tickets are $10 adults, $8 seniors and $6 children.
Reel World: Interview Master Interview Master
The Albuquerque-based cinematic arts organization known as Friends of Film, Video and Arts is celebrating its 10th anniversary with what organizers are calling a “whole new vision.” Come see what it’s all about at the group’s next meeting, scheduled to take place Sunday, Dec. 14, from 3 to 6pm at the WESST Enterprise Center (609 Broadway NE). From 3 to 4pm is social time, a chance to mix and mingle with other members of Albuquerque’s creative scene. From 4 to 5:45pm will be a screening of “Art of the Interview,” described as “a half-hour filmmaker tool” produced by FoFVA and Brad Stoddard (president of the New Mexico Post Alliance). This short doc features pros—including independent filmmakers Beverly Singer, Dale Kruzic, Arcie Chapa, Christopher Schueler and Michael Kamins—sharing their best interviewing tips. A Q&A will follow with “Quirky View” creative producer Anne Stirling, Michael Kamins (executive producer at KNME) and Arcie Chapa (manager of multimedia services at UNM’s Center for Regional Studies). Admission is free to FoFVA members. Nonmembers can donate $10 at the door or bring a “finger food” dish to share for admission.
Reel World: Up For Downton? Up For Downton?
Are you a nut for “Downton Abbey”? It’s OK to admit it. You’re not the only one out there concerned with Lady Mary’s future. As an “Abbey” fan, I’m sure you’re aware that Season 5 of the popular British series will kick off Jan. 4 on PBS. Our local New Mexico PBS, however, is giving viewers a chance to sneak preview the new season with a special event/screening at The Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe on Thursday, Dec. 11, starting at 7pm. “Downton Abbey”-inspired costumes are encouraged.
