On March 14 and 15, the National Hispanic Cultural Center hosts the 2008 Women & Creativity Film Festival. Over the weekend, the NHCC’s Bank of America Theatre (1701 Fourth Street SW) will screen a string of short films and videos created by female producers, writers and directors. Anne Stirling’s alternative-to-matrimony documentary Why Get Married?, Rebecca Rivas’ examination of Peruvian women’s reproductive health, Erin Hudson’s look at female long-haul truckers and several short-form narrative pieces will be shown Friday, March 14, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. A Q&A with the artists will follow. Saturday—from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., from 2 to 4:15 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m.—there will be additional blocks of shorts, documentaries and animations. Albuquerque’s newest state-chartered school, the Media Arts Collaborative Charter School, will begin classes this August. Got a spare three minutes? Monday, March 17, is the deadline to enter the annual Three Minute Film Festival at The Screen in Santa Fe. All you need is a film that’s 180 seconds or shorter. Truth Or Fiction?
Tuesday, March 18, is the deadline to enter your films in the 2008 Truth or Fiction Film Festival in Truth or Consequences. Categories include: documentaries, animation, environmental, student films, shorts and features. Prizes will be awarded, with a first-place win netting $100. Send your films to “Film Society of Sierra County, c/o SCAS, P.O. Box 1924, T or C, N.M. 87901” along with a $20 entry fee ($10 for students). The festival itself will take place April 19-20.
