Friday Fright Nights continues at the KiMo Theatre with a digital high-def presentation of Alfred Hitchcock’s killer 1954 thriller Rear Window. James Stewart is the wheelchair-bound photographer who takes up spying on his neighbors for fun. What he uncovers is a murderous plot. Or does he? It’s a topnotch mystery-thriller, based on the short story by prolific pulp writer Cornell Woolrich. (He’s great. You should read his stuff.) The show starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1. The second half of the fifth and final season of “Breaking Bad” is busy filming in Albuquerque. While we’re all excited to see the end of the show, none of us are quite ready to see it go. It’s been a fixture in and around Albuquerque for several years now, what with its Saul Goodman billboards and its occasional Giancarlo Esposito sightings. (Vamonos Pest Control is located just a few blocks from my house!) There’s still a chance you could make your mark on the popular crime series, though. Reel World: Sandler Skips Town Sandler Skips Town
During the recent Film & Media Day at the State Legislature, casting directors were eagerly looking for extras to fill slots in several upcoming New Mexico-lensed productions. Chief among those anticipated films was Adam Sandler’s Western comedy The Ridiculous 6. Unfortunately, less than a week later, it was announced the Happy Madison production was being dumped so Sandler could star in another lame romantic comedy for Warner Bros. The as-yet-untitled film is described as a “blended family” comedy about a man and a woman, each with kids from a previous marriage, who fall in love after being stranded at a vacation resort. It’s been suggested that Sandler could get back to Ridiculous 6 sometime next year after he’s done remaking “The Brady Bunch.” But I wouldn’t hold my breath, New Mexico. Guess we’re pinning all our hopes on Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming Western Comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West.
