Spike’s New JointSpike Lee (BlacKkKlansman, Do the Right Thing) is producing his first-ever kids’ film. See You Yesterday is produced by Lee and directed by first-timer Stefon Bristol. It centers on two best friends and high school science whizzes C.J. and Sebastian (Eden Duncan-Smith and Danté Crichlow) who are working feverishly on their latest invention, a couple of time-traveling backpacks. But when C.J.’s older brother dies after an an encounter with police, the young scientists decide to put their inventions to the test, going back in time to save C.J.’s brother. The film premieres May 3 at the Tribeca Film Festival and is scheduled to screen on Netflix starting May 17.The Boys are BackAmazon has released its first uncensored teaser trailer for the dark superhero series “The Boys.” This subversive series, filled with sex and violence, is produced and created by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (The End, Superbad, Sausage Party, “Preacher”). It’s based on the Dynamite Entertainment comic book by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson. The series takes place in a world where superheroes are common but have become reckless and corrupt thanks to their celebrity status. For this reason the CIA has drafted a black ops team to police, control and occasionally assassinate rogue superheroes. Karl Urban, Jennifer Esposito and Elisabeth Shue are among the cast. Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games, Logan Lucky) stars as “Wee Hughie” Campbell, which is fine and all, but slightly disappointing, considering cult star Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) was the clear inspiration for the character. (To assuage longtime fans, however, producers have given Pegg a cameo as Hughie’s father.) The show premieres July 26 on Amazon Prime.Fox and FriendsShowtime has revealed a premiere date for its seven-episode miniseries biopic about controversial (and currently dead) Fox News founder Roger Ailes. Russell Crowe stars as the blowhard Aussie media mogul and Trump advisor who was forced to resign as chairman of Fox News following a string of sexual harassment allegations. He died six months later of a subdural hematoma. Titled “The Loudest Voice” and based on Gabriel Sherman’s bestselling book, the series starts airing on Showtime on June 30.Titans (of Industry)The first season of the superhero series “Titans” (a mature take DC’s popular “Teen Titans”) debuted last fall on the digital streaming service DC Direct to largely positive reviews. Filming for the second season is underway now in Toronto, and DC Direct recently dropped some big casting news. Seems that the series will be introducing the famed mentor of team leader Dick Grayson/Robin (Brenton Thwaites). Iain Glen (who plays Ser Jorah Mormont on HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) will join the cast in the second season as a grizzled and aged Bruce Wayne/Batman. Also joining in on the fun for Season 2: comic book faves Deathstoke (Esai Morales), Superboy (Joshua Orpin) and Krypto the Super Dog (no word on who’s playing that role). Season 2 is expected to premiere on DC Direct this fall.
