The Experimental Warriors Tour–a bunch of “experimental, abstractive and observational” shorts straight out of San Francisco’s ATA Gallery–will hit Albuquerque this Saturday, courtesy of Basement Films. ATA is a nonprofit, all-volunteer, artist-run experimental media arts gallery that has been in operation since 1984. The Experimental Warriors Tour represents the best of the gallery’s open sheet screenings from 2007. Curator and prime organizer of the tour, Luke, will be there to intro/outro the show, which features 16 short films/videos. As if that weren’t enough, local experimental music act Lionhead Bunny will be opening the show with a special film score to a surprise movie. The show will take place Saturday, July 5, at 8 p.m. at the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice (202 Harvard SE). A mere $7 gets you in the door and helps keep the tour moving along. Wanna check out a super-secret test-screening of a local film? … Well, I guess it’s not that secret anymore–but the makers of Romeo and Juliet Meet The Living Dead want your feedback. On Saturday, July 5, at 1 p.m., there will be a free (yes, free ) sneak preview of this Albuquerque-shot comedy at the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill. This screening is open to the public and geared toward people not involved in the film’s production. The filmmakers want feedback from the general public, and you’re gonna provide it. The film, a comic take-off on Shakespeare’s classic, tells the tale of Juliet, of the House of Capulet, who falls in love with Romeo, a zombie. The streets of fair Verona are gonna run red when the parents hear about this star-crossed love affair! To check out the film’s trailer, log on to thirdstarfilms.com.
