Youth Explosion— The 25 Color Collisions film and video festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29, at the CCA Cinematheque in Santa Fe. Billed as the first “youth-produced youth festival in the country,” 25 Color Collisions will feature 25 films by artists 25 years of age and under. Described as “works from the macabre to the magnificent complimenting each other in one incredible weekend,” 25CC will expose the views and express the opinions of youth filmmakers from around the world. Films and videos will be screened in a variety of mixed categories, including documentaries, fiction, animation and experimental. Lest you mistake this as some sort of kiddy film fest, check out the feature offerings, including a 10 th anniversary screening of Harmony Korine’s bizarre and controversial drama Gummo . Receiving its regional premiere is the legendary Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation , a shot-for-shot recreation of the adventure movie classic started by four 12-year-olds in 1982 and completed over the course of more than seven years. Two of the filmmakers, Eric Zala and Chris Strompolos, will travel to Santa Fe to present their work, which for years has only been available in bootleg form. The story of the film’s creation was documented in a famed Vanity Fair article and will soon be turned into a movie written by Dan Clowes ( Ghost World ). Live music, entertainment and more will be woven around the two days worth of screenings.

Native Screening— Mia Boccella Hartle, a filmmaker formerly based in Santa Fe, recently completed work on her new documentary “When Your Hands Are Tied.” The film, designed to educate viewers about the creative and exciting ways Native American youth are finding to express themselves in the contemporary world while maintaining strong traditional lives, will have two local screenings to coincide with this weekend’s Gathering of Nations Pow Wow. On Friday, April 27, as part of UNM Kiva Club’s Nizhoni Days, the University of New Mexico will screen the film in Ballroom C of the Student Union Building from 6 to 8 p.m. On Sunday, April 29, the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill will screen it starting at noon. Sunday’s screening will also feature a special public performance by Diné musicians Blackfire and Radmilla Cody. Both events are free and open to the public.
