Get Educated— This weekend, the Continuing Education Center at the University of New Mexico will present its annual Digital Arts Conference. “Photography and Filmmaking: Your Future on Camera” is an all-day conference designed to help participants explore current topics in digital photography and filmmaking. They’ll explore hands-on learning in state-of-the-art computer labs and learn how to initiate or expand specific careers on either side of the camera. Conference topic choices include makeup and costuming, screenwriting, camera operation, lighting, motion graphics, character animation, post-production, Photoshop techniques, executive portraits, digital SLR techniques and more. There will be a keynote presentation by award-winning Hollywood filmmaker Phil Nibbelink and demonstrations by Apple and Adobe.

The Digital Arts Conference will take place Saturday, June 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UNM’s Continuing Education Center (1634 University NE). Cost is $129. For information/registration, call 277-0077 or visit their website.

Shorts up North— The Taos Shortz Film Fest will take place November 17 in Taos, N.M. The festival is now seeking entries in animation, fiction, documentary and “cell phone” categories. Films about alternative building, green power or the environment are especially encouraged. Films need to be between 3 minutes and 30 minutes in length. There is a submission fee for each entry, but the Early Bird deadline is June 1. Get your work postmarked by then and you’ll only have to fork over $17. A Shout-Out to All My Ninjas— Are you 11 years old? Are you obsessed with the Japanese cartoon “Naruto” to the point of sociopathic behavior? Well, then get ready to whine until your mother loads you and your little headband into the minivan and drives you to Cottonwood Mall, because on Wednesday, June 6, the Starport Theatre will host a screening of Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow . This is part of a one-night-only digital premiere at 162 select AMC, Cinemark, Regal and Georgia Theatre Company movie theatres nationwide. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and are available at www.fathomevents.com.
