Music + Movies— Sol Arts is accepting submissions from musicians and bands for a film/music performance concept. Chosen bands will perform live in Sol Arts’ backyard while their film is projected for an assembled “drive-in” audience. Films may be shorts, features or favorite excerpts. You can submit your concept via e-mail to solartabq@gmail.com. Be sure to include the following: name and contact number, information about your music and a description of the film including length. Performances will take place over four nights in July. Deadline for submissions is Friday, June 22.
Frantic Filmmaking, Part 1— The 48Hour Film Project is coming to Albuquerque July 13-15 and organizers are looking for filmmakers and volunteers. Participants will be racing around the clock to complete a seven-minute digital film in only two days. You’ll be provided with a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre—the rest is up to you. The winner of this year’s competition will get to compete in the international Filmapalooza for a grand prize of $7,500. For more info, log on to www.48hourfilm.com.
Frantic Filmmaking, Part 2— If you’re searching for even more volunteer duty in July, the annual Duke City Shootout is on the lookout for happy, motivated event volunteers to work the parties, the screenings and the Insomnia Lounge. For a minimum time commitment, you can see some great (we can only hope) films, meet cool people and be part of making this year’s Shootout a success. The Shootout will take place July 20-28 and will feature a collection of filmmakers from around the country shooting, editing and premiering a 10-minute digital film in only seven days (which, after the 48Hour Film Project sounds like a cakewalk). For more information, log on to www.dukecityshootout.com or e-mail volunteers@shootdfi.net.
Volunteer Overload— Of course, if your goal is to volunteer for every film festival Albuquerque has to offer, now is the time to get your name in to work the 5 th Annual Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. The event, taking place Sept. 28-Oct. 4, is less that four months away and planning is already underway for the two-city event. If you are interested in offering your services, you can contact coordinators at volunteer@closetcinema.org. The festival is looking for help planning some events prior to and during the film festival. Volunteers are needed in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe. If you’re curious, take a gander at “volunteer positions” on the festival’s website (www.closetcinema.org) to see what might be best for you.
