The Santa Fe Film Festival will stage its third annual New Mexico Film Expo Thursday, Oct. 2, through Sunday, Oct. 5, at the New Mexico Film Museum at the Jean Cocteau Theatre in Santa Fe. A panel of esteemed jurors (including yours truly, apparently) will be there to make recommendations for select films to be shown at the ninth annual Santa Fe Film Festival, taking place Dec. 3 through 7. In addition to all the film-watching, there will be nightly parties and two panels: one on New Mexico filmmaking and the other on Native filmmaking. If you don’t have time for a full weekend of film, repeat screenings of audience favorites will take place on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Film Center at Cinemacafe (also in Santa Fe).
Reel World Fe Film Fete
Looking for even more New Mexico-lensed film? On Friday, Oct. 3, the College of Santa Fe’s New Mexico Filmmakers Intensive–the region’s “premier post-baccalaureate training program for promising directors, producers, screenwriters and editors”–presents a free public sampling of the finest work done by students in the 2008 season. The event is part of CSF’s homecoming “4D” weekend. The screening runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at CSF’s The Screen (1600 St. Michael’s Drive) and will feature seven short films. Reel World First Friday Film
The first Friday of every month, the Esther Bone Memorial Library (950 Pinetree) in Rio Rancho hosts its After Hours at the Movies program. This free program continues on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. with Smoke Signals . Based on Sherman Alexie’s book, the 1998 film by Chris Eyre portrays the comedic and dramatic adventure of Thomas and Arnold, two lifelong friends who set out from the Coeur d’Alene Indian Reservation in Idaho to reclaim the ashes of Arnold’s long-absent, recently deceased father.
