This Friday, Jan. 9, the historic El Rey Theater (622 Central SW) will host its monthly Movies and Music party. Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda’s New Mexico-shot counterculture classic Easy Rider (1969) will be screened starting at 8 p.m. Following the film, local jam bands Liquid Gypsy and The Goatheads will perform live. Tickets are $7 at the door. This is a 21-and-over event.
Reel World Short Drive, Short Films
Like movies? Feel like a road trip? This Saturday, Jan. 10, the Kachina Lodge in Taos is hosting the Taos Shortz Film Festival. Thirty-plus shorts from around the globe will be featured in three different programs. Showtimes are 2, 5 and 8 p.m. The 2 p.m. show will be family oriented, while the later shows will feaure films with more mature content. “Undying Love,” a new short film from local filmmaker and Duke City Shootout winner Stanley Ray, will premiere at Guild Cinema on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 1:30 p.m. “Undying Love” is described as a gothic romance about a beautiful woman who invites her estranged lover to a romantic dinner, hoping to get one last chance to reunite. To help round out the premiere screening, Ray has gathered a selection of short films from other award-winning New Mexico filmmakers. Admission is a mere $3.
Reel World Look, A Sink!
“Bang for Your Buck,” a new show on HGTV, is coming to Albuquerque in February. Producers are on the lookout for proud homeowners who have renovated their kitchens within the last three years. Remodels must be budgeted between $40,000 and $100,000. Homeowners must be personable and willing to put up with TV crews for a two-day shoot.
