The New Mexico State Fair has extended its deadline for the Moving Image Art entries to be exhibited in the Fine Arts Gallery at this year’s fair. You now have until Friday, Aug. 7, to have your work considered for inclusion. Cash prizes of up to $300 will be awarded to the best of show in this brand-new contemporary art category. All entries must be submitted in a DVD format and have a time limit of 15 to 20 minutes. Each entry needs to be accompanied by artist name, title, running time, date made, 50-word synopsis and artist biography. Reel World Any Volunteers?
The seventh annual Southwest Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is less than three months away, but organizers are still looking to fill some staff positions. Currently, the festival needs a sponsor / ad sales coordinator to help develop an advertising strategy for the festival program. The sales coordinator will also be responsible for supervising a team of salespeople. This is a paid position. Those interested are asked to forward their résumés to info@closetcinema.org as soon as possible. On the volunteer side of things, SWGLFF is looking to fill several unpaid positions in the following categories: grant writers, marketing, community outreach, planning committee, volunteer coordinator, and graphic and website design. Reel World Happy 100!
The Vivian Vance 100 th Birthday Anniversary Tribute will take place this Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at the KiMo Theatre. Vance, who played Ethel Mertz on the classic “I Love Lucy” show, was from Albuquerque and got her start on the stage at the historic KiMo. Two old episodes of “I Love Lucy” will be screened along with 30 minutes’ worth of clips from TV guest appearances and movies. Tom Watson, president of the Lucille Ball Fan Club, will be on hand to serve as interviewer of Lou Ann Graham, Vivian’s youngest sister, during a Q&A session. There will be a drawings, free gifts and birthday cake for all in attendance. Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the Albuquerque Film Festival (www.albuquerquefilmfestival.org).
