The final weekend of Two Worlds: A Program of Native American & Indigenous Film, Theater, Dance & Photography wraps up at the VSA N4 th Theater & Gallery (4904 Fourth Street NW) with the premiere of the short film “Indios Primeros.” The film will screen Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10, beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 general admission. “Indios Primeros” is emerging screenwriter Roberto A. Jackson’s tale of a good-hearted Native American ne’er-do-well, who—in a spontaneous act of courage—assists an illegal Mexican immigrant family. Jackson’s screenplay was selected from among 24 submitted to be shot here in New Mexico as part of this year’s Two Worlds exhibition. The ninth annual Taos Mountainfilm Festival hits the Northern N.M. town of Taos this week, Oct. 8 through 11. Films centering on mountain/outdoor culture, sports and the environment will unspool at The Taos Gallery and the Taos Community Auditorium. Films from Tibet, Nepal, Antarctica, Africa, Ireland and all over the United States will be featured. Among this year’s special guests are Sir Chris Bonington (a legendary mountaineer with five decades of high-altitude experience), Greg Stump (director of the ski film classic The Blizzard of Aahhhs ), Lito Tejada-Flores (a Bolivian mountain sports and travel writer who’s penned books on wilderness skiing, kayaking, downhill skiing and more), Liz Burns (a “mild-mannered receptionist” who just wrote a book on her travels through Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan) and George Gage (producer/director of such environmental documentaries as American Outrage and Bidder 70 ). The Truth or Consequences Film Festival is looking for submissions for a sci-fi/horror film festival scheduled to take place Oct. 29 through 31 in T or C. The first annual Truth or Consequences Halloween and Day of the Dead Film Festival needs “shock, schlock and slasher” flicks in three categories: Less than five minutes, five to 20 minutes and more than 20 minutes. There will be prizes awarded to the best of the fest. Deadline for submission is Thursday, Oct. 15.
