Uncovered Cinema—The cinematic assault on the Bush administration continues unabated. This week, the People Before Profit Film/Lecture Series will present Robert Greenwald's Uncovered: The War on Iraq. Greenwald (Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism) deconstructs the administration's case for war through interviews with U.S. intelligence and defense officials, foreign service experts and U.N. weapons inspectors–including a former CIA director, a former ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Bush's Secretary of the Army. Regardless of one's political affiliation, this is sobering stuff. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. at the Peace & Justice Center (202 Harvard SE). Workforce Training—Albuquerque's Technical Vocational Institute Workforce Training Center will offer three film production-related classes in September. “Camera Assistant II” is a 32-hour workshop–Sept. 11, 12, 18, and 19–covering camera operation, movement, framing and more. “Introduction to Production Accounting” is a six-hour class–Sept. 25–familiarizing students with economic as well as technological elements of the entertainment business. “Production Accounting” is a 16-hour class–Sept. 26 and 27–focusing on computer applications used for specific elements of production accounting such as accounts payable, banking, budgets payroll and more. The workshops are a product of the New Mexico Film Alliance, designed to provide residents with hands-on training for upcoming movie productions in the state. Filmmakers Get Famous—Albuquerque filmmakers David Valdez, Philip Gunn and Daniel Gutierrez have licensed two of their short films to Troma Entertainment Inc. for inclusion in Best of Tromadance Film Festival: Vol. 3. “Kung Fu Kitties: Paws of Fury” and “Marijuana's Revenge: Reefer Madness Part 6” both appear on the just-released compilation DVD. “King Fu Kitties” was originally shot for the Digicafe, part of the Digifest Southwest and was an official selection at the 2004 Tromadance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. “Marijuana's Revenge” won Best Film of the Year at Albuquerque's PMF Five-Minute Film Competition. The trio of filmmakers, who founded the emptyv.org production company, have allegedly completed their first feature-length screenplay and plan to produce it in the Albuquerque area any day now. In the meantime, you can pick up a copy of The Best of Tromadance: Vol. 3 at fine retailers all over town.
