The Magic of Anime—On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Explora Children's Museum in Old Town Albuquerque will launch a multi-month exhibit titled “Jump to Japan: Discovering Culture Through Popular Art.” This exhibit will allow visitors to discover how Japanese culture has influenced the science and technology of the popular art forms of
manga (comic books),
anime (animated films), woodblock prints and traditional scrolls. The Explora Theater will be showing a wide selection of Japanese animated TV shows and movies throughout the exhibit's run. Although most of the content is aimed at families, the museum is also hoping to lure to an older teen/adult audience for this unique exhibit. On Thursday, Nov. 11, for example, there will be a night of mature-themed anime hosted by
Alibi film editor Devin O'Leary (yours truly). The Explora Museum is located at 1701 Mountain Road NW and is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sundays. “Jump to Japan” runs daily through Jan. 17.
