The History of Shooting—The KiMo Theater Art Gallery, located in downtown Albuquerque, has teamed up with the Duke City Shootout to present a quirky multimedia exhibit dedicated to the homegrown film festival's history. For five years, the Shootout–previously known as Flicks on 66 and DigiFest Southwest–has challenged writers, directors, actors and editors to shoot, edit and premiere a short digital film in just one week. The KiMo's multimedia exhibit will feature a continuous roll of cinematic shorts and documentary footage from previous years. “The Duke City Shootout: Photographs, Films & Commentaries” opens on Friday, June 1. Continuous showings of the festival's best cinematic shorts, photographs by festival shooters John Maio & Jim Klukkert and insightful commentary by critics, survivors and other ne'er-do-wells should get your appetite properly fixated for this year's Duke City Shootout, taking place July 22-30. Sound + Vision—This Thursday, June 30, local movie geeks at Basement Films will present an intriguing evening of cinematic weirdness. “Swish: Science and Gliders and Curveballs” is described as “an evening of audio experiments by Soft Watch and guests, accompanied by the filmic perlustrations of BF Sprocketeers.” Since it's summertime, this audio/video event will take place outdoors on the 100 block of Harvard SE, just across from the University of New Mexico. The screening is free, but attendees are advised to bring their own chair. The fresh-air experiment gets underway at 9 p.m. For more info, log on to www.basementfilms.org.

Bruce Campbell Sells Out!—No, I'm not talking about his appearance in Spider-Man 2. I'm talking about his appearance at the Guild Cinema on July 12. Tickets for this special screening of Bruce's new film Man With the Screaming Brain sold out within a week of our announcing it.

If you're a dedicated Campbell maniac, however, don't worry. The sci-fi/horror/comedy–which Bruce wrote, directed and stars in–will be shown as a regular Alibi Midnight Movie Madness screening on Friday and Saturday, July 8 and 9. Screenings will be 10 p.m. and midnight–so you've got four more chances to see the film. Bruce won't be in attendance at those screenings, but you will have the advantage of viewing the film before he gets to town. Tickets will be on sale at the Guild box office (3405 Central NE) the night of the screenings.
