Swingin' Cinema—Gorilla Tango Theatre, downtown Albuquerque's hub for all things comic and improvisational, will be hosting a local film festival on Saturday, Nov. 19. Organizers are currently searching for films in any genre, any length. Films must, however, be submitted in one of the following formats: DVD, VHS, SVCD or VCD. Films for the festival will be chosen based on a juried selection. There is a $5 non-refundable submission fee per film. The submission deadline is Thursday, Nov. 10. Don't have a film? Hurry up and make one! There will be cash prizes for the best films as determined by Gorilla Tango's distinguished panel of judges. The cash prize amounts will be based on the number of films entered. So, the more films entered, the greater the potential cash prizes. Trick or Tease?—This Friday and Saturday night, Guild Cinema in conjunction with Alibi Midnight Movie Madness will be playing host to yet another boisterous, bump-and-grind-filled evening featuring the tricky vixens of BellaDonna Burlesque. “Striptease Terror” is a special, spooktacular evening of sex, scares and skits performed by the members of Albuquerque's very own old-school burlesque troupe: Henrietta Le Coup, Cherry Jubilee, Cookie Fortune, Kittie Irreverent and the incomparable Mr. Hal Jalikakick. The show starts at 10:30 p.m. both nights. As with all previous BellaDonna Burlesque shows, this one is expected to sell out to the rafters. You can purchase your tickets in advance at Burning Paradise (800 Central SW) or the Guild Cinema (3405 Central NE). Tickets will set you back a mere 8 bones. Be sure to bring a few extra bucks with you, as the girls will be selling T-shirts, autographed posters and more sexy swag after the show.

We Have a Winner!—The independent feature film, Crab Orchard, directed by New Mexican Michael J. Jacobs, has won the International Family Film Festival Director's Gold Award. Following a week-long competition in Valencia, Calif. the drama was chosen as the fest's favorite film by the event's Board of Directors. Three principals of Crab Orchard are New Mexicans: Jacobs as director, Judge Reinhold as lead actor and Ruby Handler as both associate producer and lead actress. The full-length family drama concerns a New York fireman's family and the trauma they endured following the 9/11 terrorist attack. According to the film's website (www.craborchardmovie.com), the film is still seeking national distribution.
