Post-Tromatic Success Disorder—The 2nd annual TromaDance New Mexico film festival (Oct. 21-23) seemed to bring out the crowds with an impressive lineup of five feature films and 40-plus shorts, all produced through the blood, sweat and tears of local filmmakers. When the dust settled, the Audience Choice Awards ended up going to Scott Phillips' twisted superhero parody “Scream, Science Bastard, Scream” in the short category and to Richard Griffin's hillbilly monster movie Seepage in the feature category. The Burning Paradise Independent Spirit Award went to Heidi Griffin's documentary “The Subject to Change,” while the “El Quemado” Grand Prize went to Cyndi Trissel's horror parody “Phone Friends.” Congratulations to Burning Paradise, Troma Entertainment, the Guild Cinema and to all the filmmakers for their success.

Lost and Found—Found magazine founder Davey Rothbart will be sweeping through Albuquerque on his current Lone Surfer Tour 2005. Rothbart and his brother Davey are hitting 51 cities this fall telling stories, singing songs, sharing cool finds and reading excerpts from Davey's new book The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas. Please feel free to bring your own finds and share them with the audience at the Guild Cinema on Tuesday, Nov. 8, beginning at 8 p.m. Davey's last appearance in Albuquerque attracted a sellout crowd, so get there early. War, What is It Good For?—Several original members of Vietnam Veterans Against War will be hosting a panel discussion at the Guild Cinema's Wednesday, Nov. 9, screening of the long-lost film Winter Soldier. The film, shot in 1971, features testimonies from the hundreds of veterans who gathered in Detroit that winter to speak out about the atrocities they had witnessed in Vietnam. Virtually unreported by the media at the time, this film has become an important document of a historic turning point in American culture. The screening starts at 8 p.m. The panel discussion is included in the regular ticket price.

Santa Fe Signing—On Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4-7 p.m., staff from the Santa Fe Film Festival will be at Santa Fe's Chiaroscuro Gallery (439 Camino Monte Sol) to unveil their 2005 poster. Local artist Carlos Carulo, who designed the poster, will be on hand selling signed and unsigned copies of the image.
