For Kids, By Kids—Youth Development, Inc., a nonprofit service organization that provides educational, developmental and humanitarian assistance to children, youth and families in New Mexico, recently entered a short film in the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival. “The Day the World Ended” was produced by YDI with the help of a cast and crew of local kids, age 6-18. The short family comedy, centering on a young boy growing up in the Martinez Town barrio of Albuquerque in the '50s, will be screened for the public on Friday, Feb. 17. The screening will take place at 7 p.m. at the Wool Warehouse dinner theater (516 First Street NW). Also screening will be YDI's previous short “A Day at the Ditch,” which picked up awards at New Mexico's 2004 Governor's Cup Film Festival. Ticket prices for this homegrown double feature are $10 for adults and $6 for children. Net proceeds will go to benefit YDI and its Arts in the Community program. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.ydinm.com or at the door the night of the show.
