Correction–Last week, Reel World ran a crew call for the new low-budget horror film Gimme Skelter, which will be lensed this spring by local moviemakers Exhilarated Despair Productions. Seems they're looking for a reliable makeup effects person willing to get down and dirty with the film's many blood-soaked scenes. The e-mail address we ran, however, was incorrect. If you're interested in showing off your skills alongside such horror legends as Gunnar Hansen (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), you should send your résumé to scott@exhilarateddespair.com.

Lauding the Locals–Are you a local film/video maker? Have you submitted your work to the second-annual NM Filmmakers Showcase to be held this May at the Guild Cinema? If not, why not? The State Film Office has, once again, set aside a multi-day block of theater time to show off all that New Mexico has to offer in terms of local filmmaking. This is a nonjuried, noncompetitive screening of both short and feature-length work. Animation, documentary, narrative, experimental, whatever: All films will be accepted and screened. There are 30 hours worth of programming slots available, so it's first-come, first-served. There are no entry fees and all screenings will be free to the public. The Filmmakers Showcase itself will take place beginning on Friday, May 19, and continue through Monday, May 22. The deadline for entry is April 28. You have until then to hand your work over to the folks at the Guild (3405 Central NE). You can download entry forms and information by logging on to www.nmfilm.com. Or, if you're less technically adept, you can call the Guild Cinema at 255-1848. They'll be glad to help. This year's festival will feature a gala opening night “Meet the Filmmakers” reception at Café Cubano on Central. This will allow filmmakers from all over the state to meet one another and to mingle with film-loving audience members. I hope to see you and/or your work there this year. Tell 'em Alibi sent ya.

More Loco Than Loco–Normally speaking, Gorilla Tango's “Cinema Loco” event happens on the third weekend of every month. But, since they're, you know, loco, they're actually scheduling it on the second weekend of this month. On Friday, April 14, Gorilla Tango (519 Central NW) will present the latest installment of their movie spoof show “Cinema Loco.” Each month, the improv actors of Gorilla Tango get their mitts on a cheesy public domain movie and redub it, providing all new dialogue, songs, sound effects and story. Past Cinema Loco film titles–provided by audience suggestion–have included “Frenchie Feels Good” (The Beatniks), “Vampire Vespa” (Lady Gangster) and “Fields of Rice” (Reefer Madness). You never know what this month's film will be, so show up Friday night at 10 p.m. with $8 in your hand and be prepared to laugh.
