The ’80s are back in a big way, and this Friday night, you’ll get to choose from one of four hallmark films of the era screening in and around Albuquerque. For starters, Alibi Midnight Movie Madness returns to the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill for the ongoing “30 th anniversary of the Summer of 1982” celebration (the greatest summer in the history of movies). This time, we’re bringing you the sci-fi goodness of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan . In addition to the film, there will be cool door prizes courtesy of Stranger Factory and Bubonicon. The film starts at 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28. Tickets are $8 adults, $6 students and seniors. If the idea of sci-fi sounds good but you want more comedy flavor in it, Civic Cinema is back on Friday, July 27, with a free public screening of Back to the Future . This will get underway on Civic Plaza in Downtown at approximately 8:30 p.m. For more details, call 311.If you’re in the mood for horror instead, head down to the historic KiMo Theatre on July 27 for a Friday Fright Night screening of Creepshow starting at 8 p.m. This is the first film in KiMo’s new Fright Night series dedicated to all things zombie. Future installments include Dawn of the Dead (Aug. 3) and Land of the Dead (Aug. 10). Tickets there will run you $7 adults, $5 students and seniors.Or if the idea of a fantasy strikes your fancy, you can head up to Santa Fe on Friday for a free outdoor screening of The Princess Bride . Reel World: Best Shorts Best Shorts
The annual Albuquerque leg of the international 48 Hour Film Project will feature its “Best Of” screening this Saturday, July 28, at KiMo Theatre. The top short films from this year’s rapid-fire filmmaking competition (which took place on the weekend of July 13 and featured a mind-boggling 53 teams) will be screened. Awards will be handed out, and some filmmaking posse is going home with a development deal with truTV worth $5,000. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
