I’ve Got a Warm Feeling– Local film and video makers are invited (nay, encouraged ) to submit their “pleasurably grotesque, elaborately perverse, delightfully repulsive” short films to the freshly minted Warm Feeling Film Festival. Entries must be seven minutes or less in length and must be received by July 8. The festival itself will take place at an “undisclosed location” sometime in the near future. Sounds like a freaky good time to me. For additional information, call 235-2652 and ask for “Paco.” Prizes (of what nature, I am not sure) will be awarded to the festival’s best films.

Get Sucked into the Vortex— This weekend, the Vortex Theatre will be holding a casting call for The Vortex , a “no/low budget nonunion educational feature film” written by Zane Barker, and directed by Zane Barker, and Chad Morgan. Described as “a comedy with a … twist” (love the “…”), the film features “a group of community theater people putting on a show at the Vortex Theatre, a grungy black box with an interesting history. On Wednesday of tech week, in the midst of dealing with romantic triangles, show crushes and light cues, some of the actors go down to the creepy basement. For some reason, they don’t come back up …” (Again with the ominous “…”)

Actors will receive no pay but will get a copy of the finished film. Shooting will begin Aug. 7 and will wrap Sept. 2. Rehearsals will begin the week after auditions, and will be scheduled mostly in the evenings.

The auditions will take place Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vortex (2004 1/2 Central SE across from UNM). Auditions will be filmed cold readings from the script. Please bring headshot and résumé. There are a variety of speaking roles available, both male and female, for assorted ages. For further information, contact Zane Barker at 306-2150.

Fabulous Film— The Southwest Gay & Lesbian Film Festival is seeking submissions of short films made by New Mexicans for the 2006 film fest, which will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 5 in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Films must be no longer than 30 minutes. If you are interested in submitting a film or have questions, please e-mail Nina at info@croneproductions.com for further directions on submitting. The deadline is still a ways off, but interested filmmakers should contact Nina by no later than June 18. The festival is hoping (their emphasis) to have a special “shorts program” featuring exclusively N.M.-made works. Programmers are willing to consider films that are two to three years old and works in progress, as long as they will be completed by Sept. 1.
