Wanted: Actors— The locally produced independent feature film Black will be shooting here in Albuquerque this fall and producers are looking for a cast. Five teenage girls (16-18), three teenage boys (16-18), four women (18-25), six men (18-25), two women (30-40), four men (30-40) and a whole bunch of “goth extras” are needed to round out the roster. Since this is a low-budget indie, these are not paid positions; but interested actors will get credit for their work. Black seems to be a dark goth drama about a troubled teenage girl who begins to sympathize with a fantasy character in a book she finds. Auditions will be held Saturday, July 15, and Sunday, July 16, from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. If you are unable to make auditions this weekend, please note that there will be other upcoming opportunities. Meet Up, Make Movies– The New Mexico Independent Filmmakers Alliance is a new nonprofit organization forming to help support development of independent films in New Mexico. Initial goals include creating a network of people who want to help each other make films, setting up workshops and seminars to share expertise and creating a pool of homegrown talent. NMIFA isn’t the first group to try such a strategy, but one always hopes such lofty goals will pan out. New Mexico needs New Mexican filmmakers! A founding meeting for the fledgling organization will take place on Monday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Flying Star Café in downtown Albuquerque. Light refreshments will be served. Show Your Shorts– Albuquerque’s friendliest film festival is seeking submissions for its fourth outing. The mission of Local Short 4 is to bring the Albuquerque community together and celebrate the accomplishments of local moviemakers. The festival accepts submissions in all genres up to 15 minutes in length. Held every summer in the historic Lobo Theatre, past Local Shorts festivals have included short films by children as well as horror, comedy and drama (all split into segments which are age-appropriate for the audience). Previously, the festival has served as a benefit for the APS Homeless Project and the Monte Vista Elementary School food and clothing bank. This year, 100 percent of the profits will go to producing a bilingual magazine, Story , which is intended to promote literacy among school-age children.
