NW). “Hidden Pacific” features never-before-seen footage of the marine national monuments in the Pacific Ocean and provides audiences with a glimpse of healthy tropical ecosystems that are relatively untouched by humans and the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. Reel World: Madrid Movies Move Madrid Movies Move
The Madrid Film Festival (that’s Madrid, N.M.—not Madrid, Spain) goes on tour starting this Thursday, Jan. 16. That night, at 7pm, the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe (418 Montezuma Ave.) kicks it off by playing host to a one-night-only showcase of offerings from last year’s second annual festival. Organizers say they saw an astonishing number of high-quality films from all over New Mexico in 2019 and are now highlighting the best of the best award-winners in this new statewide tour. Comedies, dramas, thrillers and documentaries are among the genres represented. Impresario Joe West and author Andrew Wice, who founded the Madrid Film Festival in 2018, will host the screening. Reel World: Crime Time Crime Time
The locally lensed short film “Get Tony Scarboni” is having its premiere screening this Sunday, Jan. 12, starting at 1pm at Guild Cinema (3405 Central Ave. NE). This 30-minute crime thriller tells the story of a mob boss climbing to the top of his game—only to find trouble in the form of a supernatural enemy from the past. The film is shot in black and white and features “a cast of very colorful characters.” Writer-director Spike Michaels will be on hand along with several other members of the cast and crew. Reel World: Aging Well Aging Well
The Santa Fe Community Convention Center (201 W. Marcy St.) serves as the screening site for the world premiere of the new PBS series “Ageless Living.” AgeNation and New Mexico PBS are cohosting this special event on Thursday, Jan. 16 starting at 6:30pm. The 40-episode series, which was filmed in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, shines a spotlight on 22 award-winning, best-selling authors and experts including David Suzuki, Lynne Twist, Gregg Braden, Bruce Lipton, Dr. Eben Alexander, Anita Moorjani, Barbara Marx Hubbard and more. Over the course of the series, each of the speakers presents “inspiring and informative” talks before a live audience on subjects of importance and relevance to our time. The series debuts later this month on KNME-5. AgeNation founders George and Sedena Cappannelli are scheduled to host the series premiere event in Santa Fe, which offers clips from various episodes, appearances by some of the authors, live music and more.
