Monday, Feb. 20, is the deadline to submit your application for the New Mexico Film Foundation’s New Mexico Actors Showcase. This annual live audition/performing arts event gives local actors the chance to perform an audition on stage with a director in front of a live audience. Finalists will show off their skills in a head-to-head competition on March 17 at the South Broadway Cultural Center. There are five age and skill categories to choose from, giving all sorts of performers an opportunity. Professional casting directors will judge the Showcase, choosing the best performer in each category. To enter you must submit a headshot, acting resume and a 120-second video audition (two person scene or monologue). Reel World: Sell, Sell, Sell Sell, Sell, Sell

How to Sell Your Film, a two-day comprehensive workshop on film distribution, will return to Santa Fe on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18 and 19, to give local filmmakers the lowdown on getting your work out to as wide an audience as possible. Day one will cover a variety of topics, including broadcast sales, digital platforms, opportunities in nontraditional theatrical, niche distribution and DIY educational distribution. Day two will consist of an intensive, personalized distribution strategy and is limited to just 12 projects. The event takes place at the Hotel Santa Fe (1501 Paseo de Peralta). It is presented by DocuMentors (a full-service, documentary-making website) and will be instructed by experienced film buyer Anna Darrah (Gaiam, Spiritual Cinema Circle) and DocuMentors founder Jilann Spitzmiller. Sol Acting Academy (5500 San Mateo NE) will host a TV Commercial Audition Workshop for teens and adults with New Mexico casting director Kathryn Brink on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 10:30am to 4pm. Brink has cast hundreds of international, national and local commercials including Xerox, Nike, AT&T, Budweiser and Presbyterian Hospital. This workshop is intended for “serious actors, not beginners, who want to fine tune their technique and flexibility and ease with commercial auditioning.” Cost for this workshop is $100 in advance. Reel World: Salvador In Cinema Salvador In Cinema

The South American drama Voces Inocentes will have a special screening on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Bank of America Theatre starting at 7pm. The film tells the story of 11-year-old Chava, who suddenly becomes the man of the house after his father abandons the family in the middle of El Salvador’s bloody civil war. The film is based on screenwriter Oscar Torres’ own experiences of growing up in a mountain village in El Salvador during the war. This film is presented as part of the Bank of America’s Free Thursday Film Series, and admission is gratis. Tickets can be picked up at the box office (1701 Fourth Street SW) starting one hour prior to showtime. The film will be presented in Spanish with English subtitles.
