Filmmaker Jeremy Moss, whose work has screened around the globe, brings a 75-minute program of recent moving image work to Albuquerque courtesy of the fine folks at Basement Films. Moss’ “Space Material/Immaterial Place” will screen Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Harwood Art Center (1114 Seventh Street NW) starting at 6pm. In the summer of 2011, Moss began “expanding beyond his narrative training to fully explore expressionistic structural tendencies and its application to place and the moving body.” OK, then. Among the films scheduled for screening are the Super 8 surrealist documentary “Those Inescapable Slivers of Celluloid,” several “dance for camera” collaborations with choreographer Pamela Vail and the essay film he made in collaboration with writer Erik Anderson, “The Blue Record.” The event will take place at the Harwood’s famous “subterranean screening room.” A suggested $5 donation gets you in the door.

Do you like to fall down and go boom? There may be a career for you in the movie industry. On Sunday, Jan. 18, from 10am to 2pm, Zero Point Parkour & Fitness Academy (1823 Commercial NE) will present another one of its patented Film Fighter Action Workshops. Professional stuntman Kurly Tlapoyawa (Transcendence, We’re the Millers, The Last Stand, Gamer, Crank: High Voltage) will lead this hands-on workshop for aspiring stunt people as well as actors who wish to add another skill-set to their résumé. Reel World: Audition Tape Audition Tape
The New Mexico Film Foundation, in partnership with Southwest Arts Group, is sponsoring a live audition/performing arts event known as the New Mexico Actors Showcase. Some 20 local actors of varying skill levels (from children to professionals) will be given the chance to perform an audition live on stage with a director at the African American Performing Arts Center on March 14. The actors will be judged by casting directors and talent agents, and the best actor from each category will be selected and awarded a number of prizes. In order to be considered, each actor must submit a head shot, acting résumé and a 60-second video audition. You have until Feb. 1 to submit your video.

KiMo Theatre’s Tim Burton Film Festival continues this week with four more selections from Tim Burton’s lengthy résumé. On Wednesday, Jan. 14, it’s 1994’s Ed Wood (6pm and 8:30pm). On Thursday, Jan. 15, it’s 1996’s Mars Attacks (6pm and 8:30pm). On Friday, Jan. 16, it’s 2003’s Big Fish (6pm and 8:30pm). On Saturday, Jan. 17, it’s 2005’s Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (6pm and 8:30pm). Things pick back up on Jan. 29 and 30 with Sweeney Todd and Dark Shadows. Tickets are $8 adults and $6 students/seniors. KiMo Theatre is located at 423 Central NW.
