Cult movie icon and all-around amusing actor guy Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, Bubba Ho-Tep, “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” “Burn Notice”) will be breezing through town as part of his Hail to the Chin book tour. This “raucous and sardonic” follow-up to his New York Times best-selling memoir If Chins Could Kill continues to relate Bruce’s adventures in Hollywood’s B-movie industry. The event takes place Saturday, Sept. 23, staring at 2pm, at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North (5151 San Francisco NE). Bruce will be speaking, taking questions from audience members and even engaging in a live, on-stage trivia game. Tickets are $40 and include an autographed hardcover of Hail to the Chin. Reel World: Let’s Play Cowboy Let’s Play Cowboy
The New Mexico Film Foundation is hosting an extremely fun fundraiser this Saturday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 9pm at the Mortenson Ranch (96 Bonanza Creek Road, outside Santa Fe). The Western Bonanza Fun Night will help finance NMFF’s “Let’s Make a Western” grant, which will be awarded to one lucky local filmmaker after submitting a short treatment for a Western set in New Mexico between 1850 and 1920. Tickets are $20 and include a BBQ dinner, live entertainment by Cactus Slim and the Goatheads, a silent auction featuring great cowboy gear and items, plus a raffle for an O’Ferrall custom cowboy/cowgirl hat valued at $2,000. Reel World: Disney Downtown Disney Downtown
There are only two Civic Plaza Fridays left on the schedule. Get Downtown to Albuquerque’s Civic Plaza this Friday, Sept. 22. From 6 to 8pm, Forque Kitchen from the Hyatt Downtown will be serving dinner options out of the Silver Spoon mobile kitchen for $10 or less. Rudy Boy Experiment will be providing the music for the evening, serving up their own Southwest-flavored rock and blues. The Plaza Bar will be open, pouring a variety of local brews. Stick around until sunset (around 8pm) for a free screening of Disney’s animated fable Mulan. Feel free to bring your own chairs or blankets. This is a dog- and bike-friendly event.
