The Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice will present a film screening and discussion with producer Claude Marks and other guests on Friday, Feb. 4. Marks is the director of The Freedom Archives, a San Francisco-based organization dedicated to preserving and restoring audio and video recordings documenting social justice movements from the ’60s to the present. Marks’ organization produced the currently touring documentary Cointelpro 101. The film explores a little-known FBI program to track and possibly dismantle progressive, grassroots movements in America. The film will be shown at the Peace and Justice Center (202 Harvard SE) beginning at 6 p.m. A discussion with Marks and several special guests from the film follows the screening. Admission is $5 at the door. The screening is part of P&J’s weekend of events commemorating Leonard Peltier’s 35 th year of incarceration.
Reel World: Green Filmmaking Green Filmmaking
For more than three years, the Aldo Leopold Foundation, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the Center for Humans and Nature, has been working to complete the documentary feature Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic For Our Time . The film is finally wrapped and ready to receive its world premiere on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Albuquerque’s own National Hispanic Cultural Center. The film examines the extraordinary career of legendary environmentalist Aldo Leopold and traces his influence on the modern green movement. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. The screening begins at 7 p.m. in the NHCC’s Albuquerque Journal Theater (1701 Fourth Street SW).
Reel World: Ignite Night Ignite Night
Ignite New Mexico 10 kicks off on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at CNM’s Smith Brasher Hall (717 University SE) from 7 to 9 p.m. This event is part of the annual Global Ignite Week, a worldwide meet-up event in which “upwards of 10,000 entrepreneurs, technologists, DIYers, creative professionals and enthusiastic knowledge-seekers will gather in local pubs, theaters and other convivial venues for an evening that is a unique blend of networking, information and fun.” Speakers have five minutes and 20 slides with to excite and educate their audience. Among the topics at this year’s Albuquerque outing is the discussion “How to Produce a Film in ABQ While Still Having Money to Buy Groceries.” The discussion will be led by Cameron Goble and the Ignite N.M. crew. Goble worked on the 2006 Albuquerque-lensed feature Nowhere Street and is finishing up post-production on In The Wind, a sci-fi/horror drama he produced.
