If you enjoyed Experiments in Cinema v5.1—Basement Films and UNM Department of Cinematic Arts’ annual celebration of international experimental film—then fear not. Experiments in Cinema v6.3 (not really clear on the numbering system myself) is coming up in April 2011. It’ll be another five days’ worth of film screenings, lectures, workshops and more. Of course, if you’re a filmmaker interested in getting your very own genre-busting, media-bending work into next year’s fest, you need to act quickly. All entries must be postmarked by Dec. 1. To get details on the festival or to download an application for submission, log on to experimentsincinema.com.

And on a side note to all you holiday shoppers, DVDs from Experiments in Cinema v4.2 and v5.1 are now available on eBay for 20 bucks a pop. Each one is a double-disc set filled with mind-expanding, eyeball-spinning goodness. Search for eBay seller spartan1950 to get the “buy it now” hookup.

Reel World: Talkin’ ’Bout Movies Talkin’ ’Bout Movies

If you haven’t heard, Albuquerque’s premiere DVD rental store Burning Paradise Video launched a weekly podcast aimed at ensnaring all you film-crazed listeners out there. The podcast, titled “Burned Offerings,” streams live every Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. You can take a listen at blogtalkradio.com/burningparadise. The most recent show features special guest Adam Rifkin. The prolific writer/producer/director has given us films from 1991’s The Dark Backward to 1999’s Detroit Rock City . Rifkin took time out of his busy schedule—these days, writing, producing and directing the voyeuristic new Showtime series “Look”—to chat it up with Kurly and Chris from Burning Paradise. Movie reviews, DVD talk and general film-nerd-based ranting round out each weekly show. In addition to the Rifkin interview, past episodes are available for your listening pleasure at blogtalkradio.com. Of course, if you’d like the show in a portable format, you can also download episodes for free on iTunes.
