Described as a “live fictitious documentary,” The History of Asking the Wrong Question will have its world premiere on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17, at 8 p.m. in the N4th Theater (4904 Fourth Street NW). Written and directed by Ain Gordon in collaboration with Albuquerque filmmakers Ramona Emerson and Kelly Byars of Reel Indian Pictures, The History … is a multimedia theatrical event that explores the relationship Native Americans have to the history dominant culture has often written for them. Cutting between live and recorded action, the piece “questions notions of self-presentation, performed truth and the fictional frame imposed by any effort to retell any event.” Tickets are $10 and $15 and are available online.
Reel World: Feed The Need Feed The Need
Albuquerque-based, independent film company Black Shepherd Productions (maker of the “Flock” original web series) is hosting a filmmakers’ get-together and canned food drive on Saturday, Nov. 17. Local filmmakers are encouraged to wander by Soundstage 41 (4121 Cutler NE) starting at noon. Award-winning designer, manufacturer and distributor of professional video and film equipment IKAN Corp. will be there giving hands-on demos of new film production gear—including camera rigs, monitors, lighting packages, stands and more. If you wanna get your hands on some great, high-tech gear and give the stuff a test-drive, here’s your opportunity. Word is there will be special discounts on products for attendees. IKAN has also generously donated items to be raffled off at the event. Bring a canned food item, and you’ll get a raffle ticket. All the food will be given to Albuquerque’s Joy Junction to help feed the needy on Thanksgiving. Play with cool cameras, give to charity. Sounds like a winning combination.
Reel World: Acting Out Acting Out
On Saturday, Nov. 17, local film director Holly Adams (“The Man-App!”) will conduct an Intro to Meisner-Based Acting workshop. The class will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Aux Dog Theater (3011 Monte Vista NE). Cost is $50 plus tax, and all fees are due in full before class. You can go to the New Mexico Acting Studio website to fill out a form and pay in advance using PayPal. Class size is limited to 20 actors, aged 12 to adult, so act quickly.
Reel World: Copyright, Not Wrong Copyright, Not Wrong
Are you a writer worried about foreign spies and other undesirables wanting to steal your work? Friends of Film, Video and Arts is sponsoring a short workshop on “How to Copyright Your Screenplay or Novel.” Actor and writer Cliff Gravel—who has worked with the New Mexico Screen Actors Guild, the SouthWest Writers and the American Screenwriters Association—will speak at the event. He’ll give pointers and provide a walkthrough of the U.S. government’s copyright process as well as the Writer’s Guild of America’s registration process. The workshop will be held on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the UPublic Studio (519 Central NW). Admission is free to FoFVA members or $10 at the door to nonmembers.
