Have you ever wondered about the people who work in the costume department on a motion picture, creating the exact worn/dirty/rumpled look on a piece of clothing to make it realistic. That’s the work of costume dyers and agers. For those curious about finding a job in New Mexico’s growing film industry, the New Mexico Film Office is offering up a special class/lecture on costume aging and dyeing on Saturday, July 20. Wynema Chavez Quintana and Amy Mann will be there to talk about what their job entails and how to get work in as a costume ager/dyer. If you have an excellent color sense, attention to detail, the ability to replicate processes and familiarity with fabrics and materials, this might be a cool career for you. The class takes place at the Central & Unser Library (8081 Central Ave. NW) from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Admission is free, but you need to register at Eventbrite (bit.ly/2G3IwyL) in order to guarantee a seat.

But there’s no beating the original starring Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss. Catch this big fish on the NMMNH’s massive DynaTheater screen this Saturday, July 20, starting at 7pm. Tickets are $10 general admission or $7.50 for Museum Foundation membors and AFME sponsors. For more info go to naturalhistoryfoundation.org/afmx-movie-series.
