Flix Brewhouse (3236 La Orilla Road NW) has done some fun food-and-movie pairings in recent months. Spaceballs and Back to the Future are just a couple of the classic flicks to get their own fan-powered celebrations featuring food, beer and limited-edition collectables. On Thursday, May 31 Flix Brewhouse opens the doors on its most thematically appropriate combo event. The 2006 cult comedy Beerfest came from the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, makers of the Super Troopers films. Though set amid the raucous festivities of a beer-drinking contest in Munich, the entire film was shot right here in Albuquerque. Flix has teamed up with Albuquerque’s industrial-chic brewery, Steel Bender Brew Yard, for a special brew called “Schnitz ’N Giggle” Dortmunder Lager, which is available at the screenings on May 31 (8pm and 8:30pm). A one-night-only menu of themed food items (we’ll assume German) is also in the offing. Souvenir pint glasses and a secret giveaway item go to every ticketed guest as well. Tickets for this Beer Release and Movie Party are $7 and can be purchased in advance at

Congratulations are in order for award-winning, Santa Fe-based filmmaker Jane Rosemont, who was just selected to have her newest short film screened at the 21st Annual Dances With Films Festival in Los Angeles. “Shirts!” was inspired by Rosemont’s husband, who has for decades sought out unusual material for custom-made shirts. The short finds Dick Rosemont “acting out” 13 of his most memorable shirt creations. The short was produced, shot and edited entirely in Santa Fe in 2017. Rosemont’s past projects include the 2012 documentary Pie Lady of Pie Town. “Shirts!” will premiere on Monday, June 11 as part of the Documentary Shorts Program at Dances With Films. The festival itself runs June 7 through 17 at the TCL Chinese Theaters at Hollywood & Highland. For more info check out
