This Friday, Aug. 25, Movies on the Plaza will present a free public screening of Pixar’s The Incredibles. Get on over to Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza in Downtown starting at 6pm and you can purchase local microbrew beer and fresh food from The Deli at Hyatt as part of ABQ Food Fridays. (There will also be live music from Swag.) The family friendly movie starts at dusk (around 8:15pm) on the Plaza’s outdoor screen. Released in 2004 The Incredibles is the animated story of a super-powered family trying to choose between living a normal life and saving the world. Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter and Samuel L. Jackson provide the voices. Some seating is available. Feel free to bring blankets or portable chairs.
Reel World: Park Rangers Park Rangers
Bernalillo County Parks & Recreation will be closing out its own free outdoor movie screening schedule this Saturday, Aug. 26, with the recent reboot of Power Rangers. The film—about a bunch of teenagers who pilot robotic “Zords” to fight off alien invaders—will be shown at Matthew Meadows Park (3300 Mateo Prado NW) starting at dusk (around 8:15pm). This is a family-friendly event, so no alcohol, glass or dangerous items are allowed. Some food vendors will be on site.
Reel World: Innocence Found Innocence Found
The KiMo Theatre’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning Books on Screen series returns as part of the historic venue’s 90th anniversary celebrations. This Sunday, Aug. 27, starting at 2pm, catch Martin Scorsese’s 1993 adaptation of Edith Warton’s The Age of Innocence. The film—starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder—tells the scandalous story of a lawyer who falls in love with a woman separated from her husband in 19th century New York high society. Admission is free. Doors open at 1:30pm. The KiMo is located at 423 Central NW.
Reel World: Film For All Film For All
The New Mexico Film & Media Industry Conference 2017 takes place this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25 and 26, at the Crowne Plaza Albuquerque (1901 University NE). Passes for the full conference are available on-site and cost $85 ($65 students, $75 one day, $55 one day students). Doors open at 11am on Friday with preregistration and a tour of the vendors (including area film festivals, film schools and equipment companies). At 1pm, there’s an opening address by the director of the New Mexico State Film Office, Nick Maniatis, talking about the current state of the local film and media industry. Among the panel discussions and workshops going on this weekend, topics include “working as a background extra,” “how local vendors can do business with the film industry,” “New Mexico’s top casting directors” and “financing independent films.” A networking event/party will take place from 5:30 to 9pm on Friday.
