Have you ever dreamed of arriving at the Oscars in a limousine? Well you can do that this year, right here in Albuquerque—provided you supply the limo. The City of Albuquerque will supply the theater, the red carpet, the food, the beverages, the ballot and the thrill of competition. That’s right, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is once again sponsoring a series of officially sanctioned Oscar parties across the U.S. Albuquerque’s historic KiMo Theatre is one of 46 specially selected locations to present this charity-centric, Oscar night event.

“Oscar Experience: Albuquerque” invites movie lovers to the KiMo on Sunday, Feb. 24, to watch the Oscar telecast live on the silver screen courtesy of KOAT-7. Guests will experience the complete star treatment, including red carpet, paparazzi and more. Audience members will receive an Oscar ballot to select their favorites in each of the night’s categories. The person with the most winners will walk away with a “Breaking Bad” poster autographed by Emmy-winning stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. Among the hosts for the evening are “Breaking Bad” actor Steven Michael Quezada, Alison Atwood from Magic 99.5, Dan Mayfield from Albuquerque Business First and your very own Alibi film editor, Devin O’Leary. Adding to the party atmosphere will be live jazz, delicious food (from shrimp cocktails to desserts), two cash bars and a silent auction.

Tickets for this exclusive event are $40, with proceeds going to benefit the New Mexico BioPark Society. Special VIP tickets are also available for $55. VIP guests will receive a copy of the official Oscar program as distributed at the Academy Awards in Hollywood, a special gift bag loaded with swag and a free glass of champagne. VIP ticket-holders get in at 5 p.m. to watch the Oscar Red Carpet coverage. Doors open to general admission at 5:45 p.m. If you’re interested in doing this year’s Oscars up in style, go to KiMoTickets.com or the KiMo box office (423 Central NW).

New Mexico Film and Media Day will take place at the State Legislature in Santa Fe on Friday, Feb. 22. This is a chance for people to interact with New Mexico’s film professionals and see for themselves the positive impact on our state’s economy. It’s also a chance for that industry to lobby legislators about bills that impact their livelihoods. Beginning at 7:30 a.m., exhibitors will set up tables in the Halls of History. From 9 to 10 a.m., there will be a Mayor’s welcome breakfast hosted by IATSE Local 480. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be an open casting call with local casting directors at the State Land Office auditorium. “Breaking Bad” actors Steven Michael Quezada will host a press conference in the Rotunda starting at Noon.
